"Mudflat"
Wood Firing, Pit Firing and Salt GlazingMudflat Pottery
members can participate in this two day event.
The session explores the wondrous atmosphere of wood fired kilns.
Wood Firing & Salt Glazing
On Saturday morning Robert will speak to the group about
the
Wood Firing
process, and offer insights on glazes students will use .
Students have all day Saturday and Sunday morning to glaze and wad
their pots for the two chambers of the
Wood Fired Noborigama.
The Noborigama firing will take place several weeks later.
A representative from "Mudflat"
will
return to pick up your fired pieces.
(The photo above of Lynn Gervens in front of the kiln was taken
when
she came up to retrieve work in 2005).
The actual firing, as well as the workshop itself, will be documented
with photos and a CD will be included with each participants pots.
Pit Firing
On Saturday afternoon student pots will be loaded in the
Pit Kiln
and a fire started before dinner. The Pit Kiln burns overnight and the
finished pots will come out of the kiln after lunch on Sunday.
