2005
Throwing Giant Pots Workshop

Aug 12-14, 2005

This workshop is now closed

This is a 3 day workshop in which participants will learn and practice techniques for making huge pots.

Methods that do not require great strength are emphasized.  Throwing techniques used to create oversized pots will include: thrown and assembled sections, as well as, coiled and thrown forms.

Techniques for quick drying will be practiced, which allow individuals to work continuously on a pot until completed.

This is a workshop for potters of intermediate to advanced abilities

Participants with modest throwing abilities will find themselves creating 3-4 ft. tall pots with relative ease.

Emphasis on using leverage and body bracing will greatly increase the abilities of a potter to control and raise clay into large forms.  Even on very large pots the potter will rarely be raising more than 8 pounds of clay at a time.

This workshop should be considered a learning experience.  Participants will not be taking home large fired pots, but will leave with the ability and confidence to create these pieces in their own studios.

Tuition:
$ 420 per person includes all meals.

* A materials fee (clay cost) will be charged, only
to those who wish to take home
their "leather hard" giant pots.
