There are Eight Buildings at the Pottery.

Six buildings did not exist before Robert's arrival.  As Robert's pottery business evolved over 35 years, additions were added and modified to suite the changing needs of the studio.

The Pottery changed from a business specializing in Water Sculptures (1973-1991) which were marketed to shops and galleries internationally,  to a vessel oriented, wood fired pottery (1991-2008) selling exclusively from
Robert & Christine's Vermont Gallery and Web Site.

When Robert purchased the property in 1973 the buildings were situated in an open field.
Over the next 35 years he planted 200 trees to shade the buildings from summer sun and add visual interest to the gardens and grounds.

The Studio started from a patched together barn, note old silo foundation in the left of the photo, this will be the site for a packing tower in 1984.

The original barn is hardly recognizable,
five additions to the studio are visible in this photo.

The unusual architecture
has made the pottery a landmark.

Over 12 additions and major alterations
have been made to the buildings at the
Homestead and Studio since 1973.

Pottery Studio Packing Tower

1984
Tower was built for storage of packing materials. It was constructed on the old silo foundation.  On the top level are free flowing packing "peanuts", corrugated boxes are in the second level and Roberts glaze mineral room occupies the basement.
2004
Maintenance on the buildings never ends. Loose styrofoam filler flows through the shoot (center-right) into the packing room of main studio. Between 1973-1991 all of Robert's work was shipped to galleries.

 First Noborigama - 1992

The kiln was built
fours years before a shed was constructed,
to protect it and the stokers from the weather.

2007
Gas Car Kiln Room

Gas kiln has been dismantled so a new & level cement floor can be poured.
Walls between kiln building and main studio were removed to made  a unified space. A new gas kiln will be built in 2008 that Robert will use primarily for bisque firing.

2008

The addition of a tractor and back hoe at the pottery, has allowed Robert the ability to move firewood, excavate sites for new kilns,  and level areas on the property for storage of materials.
