Wood Firing

The wood fired kilns are stoked continuously for 3 days, consuming for 5 cords of wood, and attaining a temperatures of 2400 F.

Pots are placed on wads, to prevent them from fusing to the kiln shelves.  This wadding is an important visual element, as it allows fire to flow under every pot creating unique flash patterns.

Each piece emerges from the firing with a color, texture and character, unique to its placement in the kiln.
