Vapor Glazing

In the salt glazing process
pots are actually engulfed in a sea of fire.

Sodium (salt) is introduced to the kiln,
where it's fluxing action creates a glaze
this is known as "vapor glazing"

The side of the pot facing the fire,
" windward side"
receives a more pronounced glaze pattern.

The side facing away for the fire,
 "leeward side"
may have a less robust surface.
