Gas Fired Stoneware
uses propane as a fuel and can attain temperatures of 2300F.
Since gas is a combustible fuel
the potter has
the ability to control the ratios of oxygen and gas during firing.
Reduction firing can only occur in fuel fired kilns, where carbon
monoxide can be produced. |
Shino
Shino has a
wide range of color and texture.
The colors range from white to dark orange red. The texture often exhibits
crazing lines and may appear translucent.
One variation, known as “Crawling Shino”, creates a deeply eroded
surface in which the glaze peeled back or “crawled”, revealing the
underlying clay body. |
