Wi Taepa
Wanganui, New Zealand

Wi Taepa (right), with his son Kereama Taepa and Rebecca.

Robert and Christine met first met Wi  while he was  an artist-in-residence at Wanganui Polytech.  Since then, Wi has explored many avenues of clay sculptures.

Shown at right in 2002, he is Pit Firing his sculptures.

The Maori people do not have a tradition of clay.  They historically worked in bone, stone and wood.  Therefore clay offers Maori potters an open avenue of exploring form and designs not linked to traditional work.
