Gas Salt Kiln

The burner ports show the heaviest signs of wear in this salt kiln.

Wadding still can be seen on the shelves from the previous firing. Note the melting of the I.F.B.,
where sodium vapors have eaten into the bricks.

Bricks on the cart are canter-levered
to provide an air lock between cart and chamber.

The two kilns share a common chimney and also share the blower,
which is used for the separate burners for the two kilns.
Passive damper in the chimney allows cold air to be drawn in,
thus reducing the draft during the firing.

Studio Exit toward kiln building

Nan designed her studio in a way that allows her to move ware carts from her studio to her kiln building, via a boardwalk.

Note: Boardwalk allows for the use of ware carts,
to ferry pots to the kiln building.
