Champlain Silk Mills


Whitehall, NY

In the late 19th Century, the town of Whitehall, New York had a large number of individuals who raised Silk Worms in their homes.

Thus the development of the Champlain Silk Mills as a place to process the silk.

When Robert took these photos of the chimney in 2008, it was all that remained of the mill. The site is on the Champlain Lock, which provided water transport for the product.

 

  Different colored bricks were used to spell out the name of the Business
