Raku Kilns

1993-Present

Car Kiln

One of two Raku kilns at Robert's studio.
The car kiln was designed so it can be opened and unloaded by one person

Since the cart comes out of the chamber,
it is a distance from the kilns heat mass
 and can be easily approached.

The Car Kiln can be unload from three sides.

Top Hat

Rarely are Raku kilns built with a consideration of beauty.

Function is the key work in Raku and that usually means how easily can it be unloaded when hot and how convenient it can be reloaded for
a subsequent Raku Firing

A counter weight means it can be opened by one person
and then closed to hold the heat

Clam Shell Raku Kiln
Robert's Top Hat Kiln can be unloaded from all four sides.
